9 Things Your Should Do Every Morning

Is your morning routine missing anything important?

Your morning routine helps to set the stage for the rest of the day. Filling your morning with the right kinds of activities and tasks will ensure you are getting a positive start. Find out what you should be doing each morning to achieve the best day possible.

Hydrate

Most of us reach for a cup of coffee as our first drink of the day. Instead, start the morning with a tall glass of water. Keeping properly hydrated helps to maintain your energy, stay focused and keep your mind sharp for the day ahead.

Exercise

Even a short walk can do a lot of good in the morning. Morning exercise gets your heart pumping and your blood flowing. If you are having one of those mornings where you feel like you only half woke up, a quick workout will perk you up.

Get outside

While you can likely get your exercise done indoors, try to find excuses to get outside. A little fresh air in the morning can do wonders to clear your head and give you that little extra kick we so often need in the early hours.

Stretch

As we age, we need to be more mindful of our muscles and joints. Moving around isn’t as easy as it once was, so we need to do our best to strengthen those vulnerable spots and avoid injury. Some simple morning stretches can help to relieve some of that stiffness and improve your overall mobility.

Eat

We’ve been told our entire lives that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. While some current dieting trends would have you skipping your first meal, breakfast gives you the energy to start the day off right.

Reflect

Meditation can be a fulfilling part of your day, if only because it allows you some time alone with your thoughts. Regular time to reflect can help you problem solve, reduce stress and stay productive.

Write

Don’t underestimate how beneficial it is to put some of your thoughts down on paper. You might not see the need to keep a journal, but once you start making it a morning routine to spend a few minutes expressing your thoughts, ideas and opinions, it will become an essential way to start the day.

Plan

Work shouldn’t consume your mornings, but it can be helpful to take some time to think about how you’re going to tackle the day. Consider the tasks ahead, prioritize the work, think about what you hope to achieve with your day. A few minutes of planning can have you arriving at the office ready to hit the ground running.

Stay positive.

Sometimes it feels easier to stay in bed and avoid the new day. Whether it’s challenges at work, relationships, or any number of other things causing you stress, it can sometimes be hard to face the day ahead. However, the morning is the time you get to set the tone for the rest of the day. Stay positive. Look at those problems as opportunities and help yourself realize that there is a lot of potential for this to be your best day yet.
